Just contemplating whether to play with some computer code or some insulation panels. Maybe I'll have another session of looking for drafts with my piece of smoldering rope.
Secured new apartment today. Nice! Actually turned it down a year ago - insanity. Large, quiet, warm, Internet...great kitchen.
Day off from breaking the house. Even with it going down into the 20s overnight the unheated areas are holding in the high 40s, which is better than it was before. Still need to spray some foam, squirt some sealant, and then get on with cutting insulation boards. Hopefully this means the downstairs working space is ready for the next phase. Today's fun is computer-related. I've got some code to finish off and a web site for a local nonprofit to fiddle with. They don't want anything fancy. Just as well, because I don't do fancy web sites.
London is at 51 degrees north and seldom gets weather anywhere near as cold as parts of the US that are 600 miles further south.
The drafts in my work space have been driving me crazy. Every time I think I've got them all I find there's another one and the latest one has withstood all attempts to locate it. It hasn't helped that even using a smoking piece of rope hasn't helped because everything will be fine until suddenly the smoke goes all over the place, then back to normal. Having run out of other options I figured I'd look in the basement room below my work space, because a recurring theme I've noticed is that the very bottom of the wall is several degrees colder than the rest of the wall. And sure enough, looking at the wall trying to find the cold patches I saw a chink of daylight. So it looks like the cold air is getting into the wall from the bottom. Now I just need to figure out what I can get into that space to fix the problem.
