Kids may have a sugar-daddy or a sugar-uncle, we have sugar-neighbours. It's an elderly couple of our age and they are not liked in the neighbourhood. We got in contact with them after we gave them moral support and chosen their side in a conflict with another neighbour that ended in court, they lost and were sentenced with a fine. We kept giving moral support. Their life is a concatenation of rejection in relationships, family break-ups, children and grandchildren included. They of course are not completely innocent. Anyway, because we did not give up on them, which would be another confirmation of rejection, they began to spoil us with all sort of things, often food, daily papers, things they no longer use, most remarkable a tablet. Last week they surprised us with a cheque of 100 euro to be used in a super-market for Christmas shopping. We did not know what to say.... Amazing what accepting people as they are can do.
It kinda goes with the territory. You can't fix up an old house without hitting a few unexpected bumps among the expected ones. I'm thankful that the ceiling dripped in a place that's known to drip and that already had something there to catch the drips from the last time it dripped, and the leak in the basement was a drip rather than a full-blown failure. A leak in the hot water pipe would have been expensive, not only because of the water but also the heating oil to heat the water that would then gush over the floor. And I'm also thankful that the problem was relatively basic so I could fix it without having to call on a plumber. Frustrating for sure but it could have been many times worse. And it gave me an excuse to go and buy a roll of PEX, so now if something else blows I've got what I need on hand to deal with it.
Very true. We've found an older couple in our church has kinda-sorta-adopted us and we have no idea why. They invite us to just about everything, constantly include us in things I wouldn't expect them to, and both of us are at a loss to know why they seem to see us with such favor. Not that we're complaining, they're a great couple, we're just a little puzzled. We can only assume it's because we take them as we find them and come as we are. Sounds like you reaching out to this couple is something far more active than anything we've done in our situation, but it's a nice place to be.
We saw 40 head of elk, including 5 bulls just off nephew's property, approaching Mt Baldy. Hunting season is over but special licenses for cow-elk is on until Feb.15. Working Christmas. Hoping everyone is well for the holidays.
Catching up on some posts before I head out to a doctor's appointment, then to the Apple store. I accidentally drowned my phone on Sunday.
Tell me about it. I lost a few days there. And of course LOTS of phone numbers. Text me when you get a chance.
Should go with Android, when you log in to a new phone it downloads all your contacts automatically. Makes life a whole lot easier.
Doing battle again, but this time not with the house. I think I've picked up some kind of bug, been feeling particularly tired for most of the last week for no obvious reason, then on Saturday and Sunday I was very sniffly, Monday I felt OK but was very tired, yesterday seemed fine, and yet today I slept until nearly 9 and still took a long nap in my recliner before lunch and feel like I just want to go back to bed. No idea what's kicked my system off kilter but I wish it would go away.
I slept for another 90 minutes in my recliner. But I found out what my problem is. It's digestive. That's probably about as much detail as anybody needs.....
I got hit with what seemed like a flu... Got the flu shot this year, so maybe that helped because I'm feeling better after two days. Flu is usually at least a week.
