Okay, so I'm sitting at the light, almost dozing, when up creeps two cholos in a metal-flake chartreuse, totally tricked-out and tweaked Mini Cooper with big fat paws, a highly radical cam/idle and an uncorked (seems) exhaust system. Driver repeatedly revs the engine while inching toward the line. Passenger dude in a Raiders cap sports a blazing gold tooth and nods suggestively. So I shrugs my shoulders, puts it in neutral and slips it into "sports" mode. The green light unleashes a goings-on the likes of which you've never seen: screeching tires, smoke from burning rubber and a deafening roar. The Cherokee also chirps the tires a bit and whines like an angry cat (just had the injectors serviced). The Mini takes the lead by about a foot through the intersection and first gear while slightly fish-tailing and bouncing like a roller skate on a pebble walkway. I lets up and hits second gear, staying with them neck to neck. In sport-mode it doesn't shift until around 4,000 rpm, so I manually take third by letting up, hitting neutral, going normal and punching it through the next three. The rear drive disconnects automatically and we switch to the front wheels. Fourth gear leaves the Mini in the rear-view mirror and fifth looks like they had applied the brakes. Six and I can hardly even see them anymore - they're history, and I have three gears left. I start to slow for the light which changes the moment I get to it, slowed to about 10 mph. The Mini roars by with great aplomb. Next light I opens my coffee and commences to daydream 8)
Nope, both my wife and I are down for the count. I just managed to drag myself out of bed for a little while
Don't remember seeing so much rain. Deluge returns Thursday night with flash-flood warnings. Lifted something overly heavy in a hurry and torqued my shoulder. Enjoyed my little hiatus - back to work in earnest tomorrow 8)
All things are for our benefit. Just takes a lot of time and prayer to understand it. My condolences also.
And the last one in the house finally succumbs. And my wife just left for a conference for a few days.
Can hardly believe it. No rain forecast Sunday through perhaps Friday daytime. Predictions rarely hold round these parts, but I shall prepare for a stretch of work. Just what I was praying for though we need the moisture. Snow continues in higher elevations, thank the Lord! Cannot sit here for too long and prefer to study in the evenings 8) (was on the verge of jumping to South Lake Tahoe). Happy Trails 8)
Good read. I have been locked down in the house for 24 hours and I keep going outside shoveling snow in small portions to ward off stir craziness.
