Doing utils on and then downloading the database, adding code for a new social bar, purging bad data, tweeking the links page, resubmitting pages to google, eating breakfast, sipping a mug of coffee, doing a follow-up up report on an animal abuse case, preparing to study in Revelation.
It's going down to about -20° at night over the next few days. Anything above -10°C is actually pretty pleasant, all things considered. Number 6 might laugh at these numbers considering where he grew up.
-20° is more like it I think the coldest it's gotten here (in Scotland) is -1, and that was only very early morning. Where my sister-in-law lives it goes between -50° and mid-high -60°s. My hometown usually sits in the -20°s on a clear, sunny (winter) day, but is otherwise in the -30° to -45° range. It's plug your car in overnight, scrape the windows in the morning, and let it run for 15 minutes (and hope it runs, and hope it doesn't stall when you're running behind and can't let it run). So, just imagine going from a 120° sauna into snow, or a frozen over lake, when the temperature is -25° (for example). It's not fun if you're not on the verge of shock.
You Finns! My kids recently learned from a Finnish international student (actually a Laplander) that Finland has 5 million people and 3 million saunas.
Our old wood and coal burning Finnish sauna in Montana would hold about 10 of us, sans clothing, and was positioned on the shore of a spring-fed pond. When things got a little beyond tolerable we all ran out and jumped in the frigid water. Cannot aptly describe how wonderful that made one feel, once one warmed up, and sleep that night is profound.
I wonder if there is some scientific (rather than psychological) reason for the sound sleep after the shock to ones system?
One drenching rain after another and huge snow-pack in the Sierras - hope for this parched land, All weather-affected work finished. What a pleasure to watch it rain without worrying about water-damage. Temps in the 40's and 50's contrasting sharply with those incessant 100+ days of summer. Working outdoors daily. Was commenting earlier that this has been, so far, one of the most pleasant winters in recent memory. Decades of inner-city turmoil are washing away as I acclimate to the mellow suburbs. Cutting limbs today and patching up drought stricken trees. Try to save a Japanese maple. God is good 8)
Just finished watching Solaris (2002 version - 1972 'original' is next). Was promised something that was philosophical / theological, but what a shallow application. Disappointing.
At the time it was marketed as a kind of action-flickey space-Clooney sort of thing, and it's anything but. Seemed like a knock-off 2001 but not nearly as good (or boring, if you ask my wife).
