Yeah, I'm well aware of the smell. I live in Spokane, which is in the eastern part of Washington State, near the Idaho border. We have numerous fires out this way, too.
I can imagine. It must be smoking hot out your way right now. I've lived in the Vancouver region all my life and this is the first time that I recall serious fire smoke coming in over the city like this.
I actually like the smell...for a few minutes, as it reminds me of a campfire and all the pleasant memories that often evokes. However, when you smell it all day and the sky is very hazy...it becomes a bit much.
Rough weekend. Saturday morning my bike decided to throw me off mid ride. VERY painful. Ended up banging my shoulder and knee on concrete sidewalk. Finally started feeling better today. I can actually move without pain. For the most part. Still lots of soreness and stiffness.
Misjudged the low point of the sidewalk entrance and ended up hitting the curb. The concrete won. I hit the curb, the bike stopped, I didn't.
Spent all day at the Open - just woke up. Back to my dissertation. The Open was well worth it (though I'm not sure ticket prices had to be as high as they are...), I'm happy we went. Saw everyone except Rory, who of course had to pull out. I made it into the broadcast when Mickelson's group tee'd off on 12, and was 'right there' for Faldo's goodbye on the bridge, and saw Tiger Woods get a birdie (you don't see that every day). We spent most of the day chasing Mickelson and Kuchar around the course, along with Fowler and Faldo. If we ever go to one again, we'll need to bring binoculars.
Spent most of yesterday helping my girlfriend and her sister move. Ended up feeling, as my dad would put it, "like I was rode hard and put away wet." Laid down after to take a bit of a nap. Died. Woke up feeling, more or less, human. Recovering nicely today.
We have cleaned house. Most of our stuff is on the way north. One more night with my parents and then we are off on the northern adventure.
Actually watching a few, rare minutes of unexpected rain. Cooled to 80 degrees. Should be a little blessing to those - over 3100 - fighting the 65,000 acre Rocky fire nearby. (South Clear Lake area). 13,000 evacuated. Erratic lightening strikes and dry thunderstorms spark new blazes.
