Once you roughly determine where the leak is - on the glass side or the flange side of the rubber boot - you can slip a dull kitchen knife under the boot and run a bead of silicone from one of those small, pliable tubes into the boot, then wipe all excess and run your finger along the area to seal it. If you have the patience and don't mind a little mess on the hands, you can often do without lifting the boot with a knife. You take a fair amount of silicone and vigorously rub it along and into both sides of the boot around the area where the leak is. Wipe off excess but without chemicals. After a day or two a razor blade will clean the glass. You can get more comprehensive windshield-seal kits from a parts store involving more time and hassle, but if the leak is small the silicone will fix it, likely forever, once you get it in.
Speaking of which: our old 97 Corolla had a few tons of silicone on its body by the time we were done with it...
Long couple of days, and very likely 3-4 more long days ahead. Aside from work, the music shop I help at is moving one building over, and I am doing the prep and painting at the new location. It's an older building so a lot of caulking and patching. Did most of the prep work in the back room yesterday, applied the first coat of paint on 3/4 of said room today. Tomorrow after work (I get off at 6 pm), go home and change clothes, and it's back to first coat the rest of the back room along with applying the second coat on others, as well as the ceiling. I'm anticipating that by Saturday afternoon, we can start hanging the slot wall in the back room. Then it's on the the front room possibly on Sunday, depending on my schedule.
Well the glass person finally came. He told me what I expected to. It isn't the glass or the seal. He took off where the water was coming from inside the car and tested things out and showed me where the leak is. You can see it if you know what you are looking at. So tomorrow or Monday I'll go back up and tell the dealership. I am thinking of asking to speak to the manager right off the bat and cut off that part of the runaround.
Found a tremendous, lively, friendly, outreach minded, scripturally sound and bible preaching church in my new area! Boy, am I happy 8) In the 100's all this week ;~: Am so out of here 8)
Went back up today. Didn't ask for the manager but did let them know, in no uncertain terms that I was upset with the runaround. He tried to tell me I wasn't given any runaround but I gave him just a bit of what I had been through and told him it was runaround no mater what he said. Got a bit more runaround but at least this one worked out (and didn't cost me anything as the company I went to fixed the problem for free, it was a small problem). However as I was leaving the dealership service area I turned around and told the person "I like my kia but if this is an example of your service I will never get another kia." Everyone heard me so maybe they'll get the message and fix their act.
Yeah, the guy can say whatever he wants. The way you described it, and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that your version of events is accurate, it was definitely the "runaround." Whether it was intended to be or not.
Back from a few days in the US of A. We are on track for the hottest June in history. I feel for IMINXTC - it's probable a lot worse down that way.
Triple digits all this coming week. It was 107 in the shade Saturday. 100 right now and climbing - likely top out at 104 or so. Loosing my tolerance for it. Need to work from as close to dawn as possible. Missing the refreshing and cool climate of the Bay Area Water is now tightly rationed and the plants are dying; trees are dropping heavy branches.
Thought I had put this in my last post but guess not. Went to the latest place (a body shop) that the Kiadiots sent me. They were very nice. Gentleman I spoke went out to see what was going on. Told me to go sit down then went into the shop and got something. When he came in he told me that he sealed everyplace he could see. If it didn't work he did have someone that could "cut the windshield out but he didn't guarantee not to brake it." He didn't charge me a thing. Told him I would keep his number around and may try and send people his way but they are a bit out of my area so don't know if I will be able to.
I mentioned elsewhere, but we are under a air quality advisory due to heavy smoke from a couple forest fires. It smells like a campfire - covering the entire Metro Vancouver area. It's supposed to clear out later today (hopefully). We really need some rain this way - which is an odd thing to say for this part of the world. Here's a satellite image:
