^^ link me to that online presence please Anyway, we're having the yard fenced in today (finally yay!). Taking a chill day because we decided to go to our local art festival yesterday in the middle of the afternoon and didn't realize it would be 97 degrees out there. Came home all hot and bothered and it took me a good while to cool off and rehydrate properly (even though I was hydrating throughout with an ice cold slushee). Ugh. Today would have been a perfect day for the festival weather-wise, but it's over and that's that until next year. Final week of final year of homeschooling. Just some math left to do and an essay or two, and DONE. Then I can finally relax and plan for the graduation party and our summer shenanigans. Wheeeeeee.
Been there, done that. About a month ago I went up to a local art fair. Hot day. Hydrated as well but came home feeling like "I'd been rode hard and put away wet," as my Dad would say.
Got a computer problem fixed that the menfolk and computer wizards in our clan couldn't. /flex (Although to be fair, I did pray for help so I can't take all the credit ... and thanks has been given. 8) ).
Scoot down the highway this am - yet another friend not expected to make it, with kidney failure etc. Weekend in the City where it's typically cool, but congested with tourists etc.
Well, my poor friend is on oxygen and morphine. He stopped solid food because he can't keep it down. Several occurrences of heart failure/congestion. John has always had a kind and upbeat disposition and his testimony at this time is heartening. He is stronger than I had expected so I will make the commute every other day or so till things get rough for him, then I'll stay in the City.
Supposed to be writing an essay, but am putting together computer parts for a computer... that I won't be building until September ;\
Wow! Seeing friends from an old fellowship, some for the first time in up to 20 years, while keeping tabs on brother John in the hospital. Lot's of grey hairs, it seems. John is eating solids, somewhat, again and appears to be rallying to a point. Also met his sister who is here till tomorrow. Nice to get in touch with the old fellowship.
Take a hike through the zoo (Bengal tigers my fav) before heading up to the hospital; coffee and rolls at the beach... Little R&R Yeah, baby 8)
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/liberation-of-holland-70th-canadian-vets-reflect-on-extreme-hardship-1.3052541 Remembering ww2.
Back at the 60th anniversary, my parents, both of Dutch origin visited Holland and attended a ceremony at one of the cemeteries. It was sort of a mixed position for them as they were recipients of the liberation at the time (my mom in particular remembers the celebration) , but now found themselves as Canadian citizens. They really notice the continued respect paid by the Dutch to the Canadians. I think the Dutch government still ships thousands of bulbs every year to Ottawa.
They probably where in "Holten" about 15 km where I live, the cemetery of the fallen Canadians. Yesterday it was remembrance day for the fallen in action. Starts at 0:50. The youngest is at least 88+ but they still come all the way from Canada every year. Touching.
Yeah, Holten sounds right. My parents ended up interviewed by one of the Canadian reporters at the time. My dad also managed to shake a few of the soldiers hands as well. My parents were really impressed at the absolute pristineness of the cemetery there. A previous time a friend of my mother here in Canada, who had a brother killed in Holland and buried there asked them to place some flowers at the grave. Both my parents and my oom/tante with them were quite deeply moved as visiting the particular gravesite made it all seem a little more personal.
