Yesterday, two bears wandered past the motel I'm staying in. Maybe if they stay in town they won't bother us in the bush.
TV meteorologist today lends clarity to the high, hot winds currently sweeping Montana: a typical seasonal phenomenon wherein Idaho blows and North Dakota sucks.
Got some more insulation fitted. It's slow going. I used to cut it with a handsaw but found a circular saw is faster, if somewhat messier. Then I can cut smaller strips on the table saw and miter saw as required. Also messy but gives a nice straight edge on it, and since I got a decent separator rigged up most of the mess gets sucked into the separator. Part of the reason it's so slow is because the studs aren't straight, they aren't uniformly spaced, and they have air gaps behind them. So I spray foam into the spaces, let it dry, cut off the surplus, and then prepare the panels to be pressed in. This section has a lot of bad mortar work so I need to make sure that's all good before starting, and often have to chisel protrusions away so the panels will sit more or less flat. I'm going to shim the studs out by about 1/2" - a job I really didn't want to be dealing with but it's probably easier than taking an angle grinder to try and smooth off the entirety of the interior of the concrete. I managed to throw a fair amount of dust around when I used the table saw to shave about 1/16" off a strip of wood 1.5" wide and four feet long. I needed it to be 1/2" thick and it was more like 9/16" so I figured the table saw was the best thing I had for the job. And it did the job, it just threw sawdust all over the place because it was shaving wood off the edge rather than cutting through the middle. Maybe someday I'll get a planer but for now my trusty table saw comes to the rescue. I can always put a regular vacuum hose on my separator and suck the dust up off the floor..
Day 2 of field work completed. My feet still need additional breaking in. Thank God we have a helicopter.
Ok. The solution was to delete all posts regarding the subject that made me put it in contro. We were not going to separate posts and have a dedicated thread to that subject. Carry on.
Likely one post from joining banned-camp. The course has been run, methinks. New horizons, no doubt, not necessarily pleasant ones.
