Hi all, We just found out this yesterday that one of the high-school students at the school my wife and I work at has been found to have a recurrence of leukemia that he had gone through several years ago. He's also the son of my daughter's teacher. Thanking you in advance.
Thanks all. It was a pretty rough day at the school. The wife has some additional student messiness to deal with that as well.
Just an update: preliminary results are that the cancer may be in remission after being pounded with chemo. He's not out of the woods or anything yet, but that is at least the start they wanted. He has been able to return home for a bit at least.
OK. Been meaning to update for a bit. After my last post, it turned out that the cancer was not in remission. However... he was admitted into a trial program for a new drug (not chemotherapy) and it was fantastically successful in getting rid of the cancerous cells. He then needed a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately none of his family were great matches, but a 100% match has been found in an unrelated person. The donor should have undergone the removal process today and the transplant will take place tomorrow. After that, it's a minimum of 100 days of isolation as he has absolutely no immune system right now. Definitely prayers have been answered. There just seem to be so many more to go.
Prayers this evening. Asking that the Lord draws this young guy close for these next three months, giving him peace and hope. Praying for permanent remission and a successful transplant. Asking also for protection during this vulnerable time.
Wow 100 days of isolation. Praying for God to sustain him during that time. That young man sure is a trooper.
Update on this young man... The transplant did go well and the blood his body is making is virtually pure donor blood. There is no trace of cancer in his body. He was allowed out of isolation within about 4 weeks which was pretty incredible. They'll still be staying at or near the hospital until the early new year and then returning back here.
I gotta say that this Prayer forum has been pretty effective. But then, why should I even think otherwise?
