Just back from a week and a half of camping which was marred by almost continuous smoke cover where we were staying. It got really bad on the last day we were there with visibility under 500 metres, maybe less. I think half the province is under smoke right now. Fortunatley here at home it's clear blue skies. Our church is apparently hosting some evacuees from other areas.
I've heard that this is a sign of the end times, but I don't believe it. Glad you and yours are safe.
No kidding. Very few people are in direct harm's way. There is still so much beetle kill standing out in the forests that they are tinder dry. Ongoing fire suppression has led to large amounts of forest litter that burns real easy. Much of the northern half of the province needs a good burn. Plus, trees like lodgepole pine need fire to open the cones.
It pains me to have to do it, but I need to lift my 100-year-old wood floor in the attic so I can run insulation and new cables in there. Sadly whoever installed the floor never considered the possibility that someone might ever want to lift it, so they nailed it down very firmly. Some of the floor boards have two hefty nails securing them to every single joist. It's ridiculous trying to lift the floor, and because it's 100 year old wood I want to preserve as much as possible. Having given up on making much progress with my pry bar, I just bought one of these:
Yes. It takes a little care when prying up the floorboards so as not to destroy them but makes lifting stubborn nails a whole lot easier. And given the number of nails I'd rather lean gently against a 36" metal bar, then constantly bounce against a 12" pry bar and hope the nail doesn't ping too far when it finally gives.
Waiting for margarine to soften to make cinnamon rolls. It would be really nice to have a standing mixer.
For a minute, I thought that said "I'm waiting for a migraine to soften..." Oof. Got the standing mixer about 20 years ago, and never regretted it. So convenience...
