Holiday fun

OK, we have an annual "Holiday Party" for our staff, which is fair, since our partners are 2 protestants and 3 Jews. Our staff is nominally Christian/North American pagan.

We take everyone and their spouses or dates to a very nice restaurant, usually a high end steakhouse. We get everyone gifts from the partners, and then everyone brings a gift under $25 for a game of "Dirty Santa," and you can imagine the rules that a bunch of lawyers make up.

We've never had any entertainment before, but this year, as a complete surprise, 3 of my other partners and I are going to sing as a male quartet. We're going to do two numbers a capella, one the old standard "Carol of the Bells" for our warm up.

Then, believe it or not, we are actually working this one up. You guys and gals doing anything fun for Christmas/Hanukah/Fesitvus?

Nothing like that. The school usually has a progressive dinner where we all get on the school bus and go to one house for appies, one for dinner and one for dessert.

That actually sounds like a lot more fun...

For the first time in about 10 years we aren’t traveling to Tennessee to my wife’s family. She and I will visit late January.

My 19-year-old is going solo to Tennessee for a few weeks before he starts school in Nebraska in January.

I’m working on Christmas. Work caters in a big lunch/dinner and all our families are invited to come eat and spend the afternoon/evening with us.

Usually work has several Christmas parties by breaking us up into smaller groups. Our Christmas party for my group was in February last year.

We've settled on going south on alternating years. Travelling over a 1000km in the winter in not the most fun one can have, especially with the limited daylight. We do miss the family get togethers but we are constantly on the go visiting family and friends that there is not much relaxation over the Christmas break.

Gimme a holler. This time we can try to connect sir.
Anyway, we're just planning a quiet Christmas around at the farm.

You should probably read the first half of his sentence again. :)

Gee and I thought we tried to connect a few years ago. Must be senility kicking in.

Yes the first half negates a Christmas visit. However, I mention that we are looking at a trip to TN in the back half of January. I’ll keep you posted.

Most of my family lives in the area so we always gather at my nieces house. Couple reasons for gathering there. They have more room. Plus they are in the middle of everyone.

I'd need about 2 weeks head start.

I have been to a few really nice Holiday Work Dinner Parties. As an employee-- It means a lot to be appreciated.
Having games or door prizes is really cool. Those kind of dinners were with smaller companies.

When I worked for Aerospace they would give us all a ham and a 10 lb. block of Tillamook Cheddar cheese! Maybe it was 5 lbs. it was huge...
We didn't work the whole day before the holiday--- just ate food people brought listened to bands play in the hangar and visited with all of our friends. :)

    We've had a great year.

We're giving everyone time off and closing the office for staff from Christmas Eve through January 2

Do lawyers ever have a bad year?

Is this thread about Christmas only or Thanksgiving coming up?
I have to come up with a couple side dishes to make for Thanksgiving to take to the mountains (Praying it is not snowing as cold as it is here now)

I make a potato casserole that usually works out good, as long as you can warm it up at destination.
