I’ve been continuing to read a 12 volume history of Christianity and I came across a rather remarkable bit that I had to share. Some of you more well-versed in history than I might be aware already. In 1528, after the sack of Rome, Pope Clement returned to the city. After the pope complained of the loss of much of the papal states, a legate of Venice offered some advice: To which Clement replied: Meanwhile, the Reformation was already well on its way.
