Which of the four Gospel authors is your favorite? Do you like one of the three synoptic authors (Matthew, Mark and Luke) or do you prefer John's version of the Gospel? Share your thoughts.
Luke or Mark. John is my least favourite due to some of the writing style although it has my favourite story of the gospels.
OFF-TOPIC, since the thread seems to have run its course. How did the Gospel of Mark and Matthew got their names? Whoever wrote them, they never identified themselves as author. Is it known who is responsible for the name giving and why? Same for the Gospel of Luke. It's somewhat different since he introduces himself as author without telling his name. Gospel John, author identifies himself in a cryptic way as the disciple whom Jesus loved.
I find Mark’s Gospel to be an amazing work of literature. The more I learn about it the more it points to its author as being a writer of great genius. Harold Bloom wrote, in Jesus and Yahweh: the Names Divine, “Whoever composed Mark is a genius still too original for us to absorb.” A further reason for admiration of Mark’s Gospel is that it was the first narrative gospel known to be written. The Q gospel and the Gospel of Thomas were possibly earlier, but they are sayings gospels only, and provide no narrative about the life and mission of Jesus. Mark was the foundation for the gospels that followed.
All of them, sure. But in retrospect, Luke is the one who talked to all the apostles to make a richer account.
