Had a bit more grinding to do - I'd missed a couple of patches that I only noticed with a full-size panel. Then got a couple of panels cut and installed. I had hoped to connect some cables but working in my own shadow while tired left me thinking that playing inside the breaker panel was probably a Really Bad Idea. It will still be there when I'm ready to work on it next, probably Sunday.
I got my cable connected to the breaker panel. Currently the breaker is switched off because the other end is just a big roll of cable, it just needs to be cut to length and have an outlet put on it, then I can get rid of the other temporary botch that currently gives me power in that room.
This bit is relatively easy, it's a bit of a drag figuring out the best route to physically run a cable but joining the ends together isn't difficult. It's a bit fiddly trying to get it all together inside the breaker panel - I had an electrician come in and fit the new panel and he's wired it very tidily. Tidy is good, except when you're trying to get new cables in there and there's very little slack. I may end up rejigging a few of the wires in there to make more space for myself. That will be the kind of job where I just kill the master power so I can work however I want without needing to worry what I might be touching.
I figured I really wanted to get rid of the big coiled up extension cord completely, so joined up all the bits of cable I've got laid out ready to take sockets, and added a couple more temporary sockets. It's not a pretty job but it's about as safe as it can be given the limitations (you'd have to try quite hard to access any live wires), and it means I now have three double sockets, including one by each of the windows. That's handy because it means I can put the fan in either window without having to drag the extension cord around, and also means I can plug in the air compressor and shop vac in places they can be out of the way, rather than places that are near the end of the power cord.
Badly disturbed night, woke with a start in the small hours with only a very tenuous memory of what I'd been dreaming about, but it gave me a big enough jolt that I struggled to sleep much. Around 8 I felt like I was wired but around 3 I felt like I just crashed. I managed to get a bunch more panels cut to size and fitted. I've found what seems to be a better way of cutting them than I had before, although it involves going up and down stairs a lot because the room I'm working in doesn't really have space to be working with big sheets. I had to leave one section because I spotted a gap in the mortar I'd created and missed when I was filling them, and a few bits around the windows because I'm going to need to cut things to a precise width and also disassemble a small part of the window frame to get at one area. I also had my friendly heating engineer round to figure whether putting a newly disconnected hot water radiator in there was a sensible idea. Not only is it sensible, it's not going to be expensive, even if I do end up asking him to shift it down a flight of stairs, around the house, and up another flight of stairs. I don't think I can do that single-handed, it probably weighs about the same as I do. I could do with borrowing a friend's son - he's a bodybuilder and could probably lift the thing with one hand.
Got a load of stuff set up at church, and a little more rebuilding done in the room I'm fixing. I had hoped to get a little more done with the insulation panels but I noticed a bit of prep work I missed, so had to go back and get that seen to. And the piece of work that involves talking part of the window frame apart got left because I prefer not to be working with a light on when it's dark and I can't drop the blind. I should be able to finish it off early in the week.
Snowy, freezing Thanksgiving weekend gives way to 40°F thaw on Monday. 3ft accumilated - put the shovel away for now.
Cleaned up my workspace, it was surprising just how much stuff was in there that I won't need in that room any more. Many tools are relocated to the basement, and I've got a nice big flat surface I can use again. Got a bunch of assorted odds and ends done in my work room. I dismantled one side of the window so I could measure spaces for panels, cut a bunch to size, found I had some more grinding to do (yay!) so got that done and got covered in crud in the process, got a bunch more panels cut and foam sprayed. Then when it came to measuring up for the last panel I found..... a little more grinding needs to be done. By then I'd cleaned all the crud off my face so decided to leave it until tomorrow. At least now I've got all the panels I need cut and fitted, except for the last two, that need grinding done first. So hopefully by the end of tomorrow that part will be done. Then I just need to figure out how to remove a door and door frame without trashing it, fit a new stud across the middle of where the door currently sits, and give my friend the nod that I'm ready to drywall it.
Tango, I have to admit I am enjoying reading about your remodeling woes. But I still have to say "Better You Than Me!"
