I'm curious where this might stop. If the government can mandate a vaccine "for the common good" what come next? Will the government claim the right to forcibly abort a deformed baby regardless of the wishes of the parents? You know, society can't afford to look after disabled kids so it's for the common good, right?

Maybe if the population is too low and needs a boost we'll have forced impregnations of fertile young women. We need more workers to support the economy, so it's for the common good. Anyone who refuses is simply being selfish.

That's always been the point. imo.
The vaccine is not the issue as much as governmental freedom to administer one.
Newer generations are increasingly prepped and influenced in the direction of mindsets that gripped the Eastern European imagination pre-WW2.

Either "Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm really awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse, or the Handmaiden's Tale. Either one is OK with the power brokers.

Thanks to the new vaccine mandate we know that if you employ 99 people you don't need to enforce vaccination but if you employ 101 people you do. Because science, apparently.

So the solution is easy. If you employ just over 100 people, fire the democrats to keep everyone safe. Because science.

Indeed, without considering reasons why a vaccine mandate is a really bad thing it's easy to come up with convincing sounding cases for why it makes sense. Sadly it seems fewer and fewer people stop to think about ways government power might be misused in their growing desire to use government power to force everyone else to do what they think should be done. We even have Godwin's Law to help shut down discussions of places that abuse of government power can lead.

    For all insomniacs everywhere.

Wait. Did he really just start a sermon with "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit"?????
    Why, yes. Yes, he did.

Oh, and did ye really tell the Deacons to "lead, follow, or get out of the way?"
    Why, yes. Yes, he did.
    o_Oo_Oo_O

And the video showed at the end, which, of course, can't go on youtube is....

I think the point of the movie is that the monolite announces the next step in evolution, as in the end with the arrival of the star child, a newer human race.

You must be a savage too attached to his m--

I grew up in Ontario, which means that vaccinations/inoculations were mandatory for school attendance. I take it that's largely not the case in the US (or other parts of Canada, I guess)?

Don't talk about my momma... :D

Vaccinations mandatory in US elementary schools, yes, although starting in the 70's there was a lot of anti-vax protesting.

Moderna/Pfizer??? Haven't you heard, those are not vaccinations, but are, to the contrary, implantation of genetically engineered medical devices...

Come on, Scottie, catch up here, OK?

Recently I heard a new one, a Christian friend of mine said, vaccinations are the cause the virus mutates, the British mutation, the Delta mutation. The world further up side down. I was shocked, I know him as a person with both feet on Earth.

Well, obviously, if you put more thingies into more people and they come in contact with the ChinaWuhanFlu then the mRNA causes the natural lab made virus to cascade into multiple variants so that the pharmaceutical companies, controlled by Dr. Fauci, can make gazillions of dollars by requiring non-vaccine jabs forever!!! BWHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

It's all in the design, bro...

This is the bit I'm really struggling to understand. We've got some Very Clever Genetic Trickery going on that tricks the body into producing the spike protein that looks sufficiently like the spike protein on the coronavirus that when our body learns to attack the artificially made spike proteins it has learned to attack the distinctive part of the coronavirus. But nobody seems to be talking about the benefits from having learned to attack and neutralise the actual virus - the thing that comes with the spike proteins, the spike attaching to the main body of the virus, the main body of the virus, and all that other stuff. But apparently learning to attack something created to look quite like the virus is better than learning to attack the real thing.

We don't know how long natural immunity from exposure to the virus lasts, so we have to line up to take a vaccine of unknown longevity. Makes perfect sense. You might have thought someone would want to study how long natural immunity lasts, but apparently not. Because science.

Oh yes, and if you learned how to attack the real virus rather than a faked piece that looks quite like the virus, you're still not allowed to go out to dinner. But you can vote. Because science.

I came across a similar theory too, the theory that the delta variant is the vaccine. It doesn't sound entirely believable. I'm still hesitant about the thought of tricking my body into producing the same spikes that the virus uses to infect my cells. When people who have proven themselves untrustworthy time and again have a message that's little more than "trust us" I'm sure they can't be hugely surprised when some decline to do so.

In a cynical way you can indeed say the delta variant is the cure. Just let everybody expose themselves to the virus, do nothing, 10-15% of the world population will die and in the end there nothing more to attack and the virus dies. The Spanish flu of 1918 comes to mind, because of the lack of knowledge how to fight it and no vaccinations it lasted only one year.
