Any of you folks ever listen to J. Vernon McGee? Check out this very short MP3 clip (just a few seconds) on his study of Isaiah. Tell me what you hear him say. J. Vernon McGee And then maybe explain what you heard. Just curious...
I love McGee and have followed him for decades. A curious way of describing things sometimes and a unique sense of humor. He simply points out that the natural order will be freed from the curse.
If the lamb is "inside the lion", it's just been made into a meal. Which is directly contradicted by the next verse, which says ..." a lion, like cattle, shall eat straw.."
The way I understood it is that in the hear and now, the only way a lamb and lion are near each other is that the lamb is inside the lion. I don't think he was quoting any scripture there.
He did say however if you'll notice, "Now that's the day the lion will lie down with the lamb". That's what I found interesting.
Here's that clip Fenris. Extended exert from J. Vernon McGee Here's a couple more head scratchers everybody. John Macarthur quote from sermon "The Invisible Kingdom Of God" John Piper quote "The Branch and Banner of David Isaiah 11:6"
Another interesting head scratcher... Book exert: In all honesty, I have quite a few of these quotes. But then again, you'll not find the lion laying down with the lamb in any bible at all. Or am I wrong?
It is more a paraphrase than an exact rendering of the text. Again, McGee does not claim to be quoting scripture.
He does indeed, no doubt. But the particulars involve a wolf dwelling, not a lion laying down. Did you look at the other examples on that post?
Truth. His cites a popular (obviously) paraphrase and has done this sort of thing before. This is why I don't hold to paraphrasing, at all. Reminds me of the notion that Cain killed Abel with a "rock."
Hardly paraphrasing to the extent of completely misquoting what the word actually says. Not McGee, Not McArthur, and Not Piper! And have you ever read Labagh's work? Not him either...
