I like the wildlife here. My wife called me to the kitchen quickly. It turned out we had a hawk, which I think was a broad-winged hawk, sitting on the fence between us and the next house. Then it swooped down and seemed to be chasing something, presumably a squirrel. Sadly I think the squirrel escaped. It's a magnificent looking bird, been a while since I saw a hawk that close.

Do the pasties in the Butte area contain chunks or creamy fillings? I found some places in Cornwall sold pasties that had chunks of meat, potato and vegetables in them (I really liked those) and others had everything blended into a more creamy filling. I literally threw one of those into a hedge when I bit into it, it was revolting. Maybe a passing animal ate what was left of it.

A creamy pasty would be considered an abomination where I'm from. I've noticed folks around the country experimenting with variations on the pasty. It just doesn't work. I grew up with half a pasty in my daily lunchbox. It is still a staple around here,

I can't remember if I mentioned here... About a month ago my kids told me there was an injured bird on our lawn. When I went out it sort of flapped/scurried through the carport then crawled under the neighbours fence. My neighbour just happened to come home so we went around and found a hawk or falcon of some kind struggling up against another fence. I managed to get it in a plastic tub and then deliver it to our local wildlife rescue centre where I learned that it was actually a merlin. They then shipped it off to Vancouver to a specialized bird hospital and sanctuary.

Merlins are cool. I only ever saw one in captivity, I'd love to see one in the wild.

My wife went out with a friend this morning so I went for one of my longer walks. This time I alternated walking and jogging, and managed to jog more of it than I had done before, which was pleasing. At the point the 5-mile loop and 8-mile loop diverged I nearly went for the easy option but decided to stick with the original plan of doing the 8-mile loop, and I'm glad I did. A couple of personal bests fell along the way, which was nice :)

Did you ever get the results back?

Yes. He was negative (as we expected). Government made a couple changes for schools as they quickly realized that kids might end up missing a lot of school. Now it's a certain combo of symptoms to trigger testing. Otherwise stay home and get over the cold, then go back.

Down to 6oz of coffee per day. What a struggle. Boy do I feel better.

Decaf? An abomination if ever there was one.

No coffee, day 2 back on keto. Have an s20 on the way, kiddo is coughing, being lazy.

Keto is tough. Not the eating part, the planning part. I think breakfast is the hardest, especially since I'm leaving the house at 4:30 a.m. and I'm not going to be rattling the pots and pans at that hour.

Also, there is almost NO carry out/take away breakfast that is keto. Everything is carbs. And this is how stupid restaurants are.

If you order a traditional American breakfast -- 2 eggs, bacon, hash brown potatoes, toast -- you can get that all day every day for $5 or less. If you order 2 eggs and a side of bacon - a la carte -- it costs you $7.45

    Duh.........

So, I typically skip breakfast, using cream in my unsweetened coffee for my morning fat calories, then have a salad with olive oil (as in, a gallon?) and some protein for lunch.

Yep. Like being chained to a psychotic monkey.

Found a local place here in the "mountains" that has free range, grass fed beef, pork, chicken.... Need to buy a freezer pretty soon and get it stocked. Unfortunately, can't keep chickens were I live. yet.
Local farmers market is ok in season, but the better half has her eyes set on 4x 16' raised beds and a 16 x 24' greenhouse...

We have friends who live in the next valley and who frequently come to our valley when produce is in season. They say our valley is like a several-thousand-acre garden that they don't have to tend themselves.

My wife is learning all sorts of techniques for canning and preserving - when stuff is in season it's so cheap it's just not funny.

So why not order the traditional breakfast and not eat the hash browns or toast?

I once read a story of someone in a similar situation but they didn't want the two eggs. Having breakfast without the eggs would increase the price. When the waitress asked how she wante the eggs she said "raw and in their shells", and took two eggs home with her.

Yeah I skip breakfast, lunch usually ends up being snackish, and supper/dinner/tea is where the bulk of my calories come from.
