My slate cutting blade worked very nicely. Surprisingly my wood cutting blade also made a good dent in the slate, as I cut away a section of support for the old part of the roof. I think now all that remains is to figure the best way to clean up the fine dust, then I can spray foam into the groove where the slates used to rest to provide a bit of sealing and lay drip trays in place ready for the next time the seam leaks.

It wasn't desperately pleasant working in a confined space with eye protection, earplugs and breathing mask, with the sun in my face and trying to light dark corners with a combination of the small light on my oscillating tool and a work light, but I think I've cut away everything I needed to cut. So now I just need to figure the best way to gather up the fine slate dust without blowing it everywhere, then get on with spraying the foam. I think this means I can now press on with fixing up that room.

A camel is just a sand moose...without antlers.

Moose & elk are unusually dark-colored this year. This bull is black and deep brown.
    Odd.

    Hmpfff.....

If I was in DC, I'd have to say that you aren't understanding your white privilege.

    :)

    But I'm not, so I won't.

Any other critters exhibiting different markings or behaviors this year? I'm always amazed at how God manages to get the word about bad weather to the critters but we just don't listen...

    I think this nails it!
My nephew, however, shot a burglarizing bear last week which was mostly blonde. Highly unusual for October.

I have not heard anything untoward about animal behaviour up here from the hunters. The moose are pretty cagey around here, especially during hunting season. Have yet to see one in town.

I hear all sorts of stories about the woolly caterpillars and what their coloration is supposed to mean. This year I've seen some that are all brown and some that are all black, so maybe they can't figure out what the winter will be like. Some are saying it's going to be a brutal winter, but they said that last year and it wasn't all that bad. Even Punxsatawney Phil doesn't seem to know what he's doing half the time. The world is truly weird.

Watched a young roofer finish a new roof on a neighbor's hail-damaged house without installing flashing in the valley.
He just bent the asphalt shingles over the angled groove.
I thought, "Don't make me tell Tango on you."
    Did anyhow.

    Bad roofer.

My latest entertainment is figuring the best way to fit fiberglass between ceiling joists with nothing underneath to stop it falling out. I didn't get on very well with an early attempt to use wire supports, so I've been cutting strips of wood, pinning them in place with a finishing nail gun, and using those as supports. I want to get the room insulated so I can warm it up enough to spray some more foam in there, because once it's drywalled I won't be able to get at where I need to be to spray the foam.

Can't tell you how many times I've seen that. Lazy and cheap. I had a guy try to tell me once that "weaving" the shingles over tar paper was sufficient.
Maybe on his roof, but not on mine.

I've had good luck with a very lightweight "net" in a similar space, essentially insulating with fiberglass batts over an unfinished crawl space. Yeah, I hate those wire "supports" that you are supposed to bend into position.

That sounds like as good a way as any. I'd originally planned to get some 1/4" plywood to pin to the underside of the joists and lay the fiberglass on top of that, but the assistant at Lowe's pointed me towards the wire hangers. They worked out a good $60 cheaper than the plywood and also overcame the issue of having to mark the plywood to show where the joists above them were (needless to say nothing is quite standard in my house), but proved to be rather frustrating. That said I think I can probably work with them, since they are only temporary and once the drywall is in place I can hopefully reach around and take them out again to reuse later.

I must admit I'm liking the idea of the lightweight net.

Recovering from another EGD. My 10th to date, 6 with my current GI doctor. Sore throat today but that's all, besides a bit of weakness. I had it yesterday and ended up sleeping most of the day. Got done and home around 3 PM. Laid down for a nap at around 5 and basically slept until 9 AM. That's partly why I wasn't on yesterday. The LCD on my cell phone broke and so it is in the shop waiting for the part and I am stuck having to go to the library for the internet.

Thwarted. I had hoped to fit some more insulation panels this afternoon but found I'd cut one about 3/8" too narrow, which meant it didn't fit snugly. I also noticed it didn't fit flush. Yep, I missed a bit with the angle grinder, which means I need to grind some more. I so hate grinding, the dust goes everywhere. At least it looks like a small section. The next strip along had another small section that was a little proud so I'll grind that away as well. Just not today, I don't care to don my protective gear and get covered in crud for a very small job, so it can wait until tomorrow.

Thankfully the section that's a little too narrow can be salvaged - I've got a couple of areas over the top of a window that need small pieces cut to size, so it should fit quite nicely in there.

I did take the chance to fill a big gap in the wall. Last time I ran the grinder I ripped a load of mortar out from the joins between a strip of concrete I'd cemented into place, to the point I decided the best thing to do was chisel the whole thing out and redo it. Since I couldn't fit my panels I figured I might as well do that. That can dry overnight. If it's not ready by morning I'll just leave that section without a panel for now and focus on the rest of what I need.

At this rate I might be ready to do the drywalling some time next week, which would be nice.

What is an EGD? I guess if it involves a GI doctor it's a digestive issue?

    1. Stick garden hose with balloon attached down your throat.
    2. Pump the balloon full of air to inflate and stretch esophagus from the inside.
    3. Deflate balloon and remove garden hose.

Ah, I'd missed the US spelling. In the UK we add a leading O to oesophagus. I'd thought "recovering from" meant some kind of medical issue rather than test. It's hard to know whether to expect anything useful from Google when searcing for an acronym but apparently it's an esophagogastroduodenoscopy. I mean, obviously....

Hope the recovery is a quick one.

That's about it. Though they don't actually use a garden hose. Recovering because it is done under general anesthesia so it takes a bit of time to recover. Plus it does leave the throat sore. I'm sort of used to it. This was my 10th one, 6th with this Dr. BTW, EGD stands for Esophageal Gastric Dilation

On other notes I took my car to the shop today. Had been noticing a small squeal when I drove. Good news it's not my brakes. Bad news it was caused by the belts and I have to have all 3 replaced. More bad news, they discovered a broken brace that needs replaces. They don't have the part and have to order it. On the up side I can still drive the car as long as I'm not going far and don't race around. That does in the plans for this weekend. :D:p
