Sounds like he has some sort of immune deficiency issues, then. And the vaccine itself shouldn’t be able to get him sick. The virus they use in vaccines is NOT even alive. Therefore, it can’t infect him.

Of never having the flu. I find it a bit hard to believe that over your 50+ years you've never been touched by the flu. I have not had true influenza that much either but it's pretty ubiquitous. Granted, as I recall, you don't have kids who seem to be walking disease factories, so I can accept that you'd be exposed a lot less.

Aaron also pointed out your first statement was not correct as flu-shots contain non-living flu virus. You can still get some live-attenuated flu vaccine through nasal spray instead of injection.

Oh, well, that's different then. No flu here anyway ;)

There's a lot of correlation-causation issues around vaccinations in general.

Yeah, the flu shot usually does, but not always, prevent you from getting the flu. It takes awhile for your body to make antibodies to the virus and if you get exposed to the flu before your body has had a chance to make sufficient amounts of the antibodies you CAN get the flu. However, you typically get over it faster and the symptoms aren’t as severe.

You don’t have to have a degree in biology in order to understand the basic concept that a DEAD organism (like the flu virus in the flu vaccine) CAN’T infect you because “infection” is the growth and spreading of microorganisms. And DEAD organisms can’t “grow,” and eventually spread, because, well, they’re DEAD...

And this is why I am sometimes skeptical of your claims.

    Which claims?

I'll say it again, and you can just call me a liar if you wish.

I have never taken a flu shot, and, I have never had the flu.

The nasal version does contain live virus.

Skeptical does not equal me thinking you a liar. I can readily accept you never getting a flu shot. I am not so willing about NEVER having the flu. But there is no way of ever determining the truth to that other than your claim. Memories are not ironclad, as you should well know.

Fair enough. This is correct. Actually, though, it’s only “half live.”

Is it not possible to have the flu and not know it? I mean obviously you know you’re sick. But I don’t always know what I have. Maybe it’s a cold. Maybe it’s a mild flu. I take stuff. I get better. If I don’t see the doctor, how do I know what I really had?

I’m not sure what “half live” is.

Dr. Norman Geisler said when he turned 50, his wife said he would live to be 100. He said, “How do you know that?” She replied, “Because you look half-dead already.”

I think he means that the strains of flu in the vaccine are deactivated.

If they'd whip up a vaccine for sinus infection, i should be a happy camper.
