Just wondering how many here get a flu shot or avoid them.

I haven't had one in close to 10 years.

I would only get a flu shot if I wanted the flu.

I've never had a flu shot.

    Or the flu.

I get one every year. They may not completely prevent you from getting the flu. However, if you do get the flu it usually lessens the severity and/or duration of time you have the flu. The thing people have to keep in mind is that the flu shot does NOT protect from every strain of flu virus. There are NUMEROUS strains of the flu virus and the flu shot only offers possible protection from a few certain strains that are predicted to be more prevalent during a given flu season.

I’ve never gotten one. I have no idea how to set up a survey or if that’s an option.

Never had one. My doctor always asks about it and I always say I'm not interested.

My dad stopped having flu shots the year he got the flu really badly within days of his flu shot.

Every September. Never get the flu.
At 65+ now I get the heftier version, and also the pneumonia vaccine.
Last year or so I picked up a big family from China at the S.F. airport. They were all hacking, coughing, sneezing...
    Went straight to the dispensary.

The last flu shot I got I was nearly hospitalised with pneumonia, and was then diagnosed with cancer a few months later. The three may be completely unrelated but I don't care to give it another go. I ended up getting Swine flu anyway back in '09 and haven't gotten the flu since.

    Poll added.

I’m pretty sure I had the swine flu too. Never officially diagnosed but I was really sick.

How does one know if they have the Swine flu? Do they sneeze out ham?

Got one this year. As I work in a school it's freely available. It's never a guarantee as it's a best guess as to the expected strains out there.
I got what felt like flu but is pretty much gone. Far less time than a usual flu which can last two weeks.

    Skeptical.

Probably the aftermath of the shot triggering an immune response; not the flu proper, but a simulated experience.

    Of which?

    Both are accurate statements.

Someone tried to talk me into getting one for free. I understand that as I get older it may be better for me to get one-- Just not sure about it. I have been lucky the last few years (knocks on wood)

As my father in law gets older, the sicker he gets everytime he gets the flu shot.

You can NOT get the flu from a flu shot. The flu virus in the vaccine is NOT a live virus. Since it’s not live, it CAN’T infect you.

I don't think so. Got the shot in October, but the flu-like symptom were just recently over Christmas.
