We have a lot of televisions at work. I feel like I work at a sports bar and grill, but I don’t. I saw those headlines all day. Terrible. We lock our doors at our church now. Have for a few months. We of course don’t think it would ever happen. But didn’t everyone else who it did happen to think the same?

It is bizarre to me that there are still people out there who do not even know anyone Jewish and have decided to use their time in this life to hate and murder people they do not know? Self centered sick and degenerated worship of evil icons.

I've been thinking a lot about people who act like this, or who defraud, steal, intimidate, etc., in lesser ways. I don't understand.

Coward. Idiot. Evil. Broken.Selfish. Stupid. The words just don't exist to describe the shooter.
Fenris, our prayers are with your entire community of faith as it struggles with yet another example of man's inhumanity to man.

And for the record, I never attend church anymore unless I'm armed.

My current church and my previous Refmored Baptist Church both have had guys that are armed. Not obviously armed. They aren’t walking around with rifles. Both have had cops as members too.

I don’t carry. I’ve never held a gun. I have a FOID card but have never taken a concealed carry class.

Our current church locks the doors for service. One guy (we rotate) watches the doors to let legit folk in. It’s weird. It will probably never happen to us. But probably everyone it has happened to has said the same thing prior to it happening.

    I don't either.

It seems that the ability to emote has replaced the ability to think in the vast majority of the population at large, and as a result, ideas no longer matter except as icons or avatars to represent a nonrational experience.

It is as if reality does not matter, only what one desires reality to pretend in order to support a biochemical emotive release.

Soma, anyone? "All the advantages of Christianity and alcohol; none of their defects."

Hope for the best, plan for the worst? As a deputy, I'm almost always armed. Even during services.

Agree. As a retired cop, I feel the same way.

It's past time to start securing all venues - not merely teachers/pastors with guns etc.
Will be expensive, no doubt, but screen all entrances and set up comprehensive sop plans, including efficient communications procedures.
Both uniformed and plainclothes security; real-time surveillance.

Thanks. I had a good run. Lots of good times. I miss the camaraderie.

How much longer do you have?

About 5 years. But I don't plan to retire unless I have to. It'll depend on the Sheriff in office at the time.

Thank God we have no mandatory retirement age here.
