So, my family and I are going to visit Canada from the 8th-14th of September. We’re staying in Victoria on Vancouver Island. I’m a food kind of guy. I love trying new foods when I travel. I’m wanting to try this one particular place that serves pierogis. Never had them before, but they sound good. Anyway, I’m asking for suggestions for various restaurant ideas (for pretty much any kind of food other than burgers or pizza) from people who’ve visited Canada or live/have lived there. Thanks...
I have family that live in B.C., but they're pretty useless at suggestions. Ted might know since he's kind of (but not really) around that area. Pierogis at any Ukranian place should be good. Asian food will likely be good as long as you stay out of the seedy places (as is common sense), and then the rest is, well, the rest. In other words, I'm useless too.
Yeah, I'm about 700km away from Victoria by air. Even when we lived in the Vancouver region I have not visited Victoria for years, so I'm also useless. I'm sure there are plenty of decent restaurants about the main part of town by the inner harbour. You are near the water so the seafood should be pretty fresh if you are into that. A couple of chain restaurants that I like are The Keg (steakhouse) and Earl's (variety). I`m not sure they are in the US now. Perogies are not what I think of when it comes to West Coast - that seems a more Manitoba thing.
One of the first things that popped up on my google search was Japadog. http://www.japadog.com/ There is also poutine..explained below http://dailyhive.com/vancouver/best-poutine-vancouver-2018 And Nanaimo bars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanaimo_bar
Sister in law is getting married on Saturday, so we've spent a week in Saskatoon, and are now in Regina for the actual wedding bit.
Thanks for the replies so far. Definitely getting excited to go. Canada looks like a nice place to visit. Definitely looking forward to it.
So how'd the trip go? It's been unseasonably cold in the central and north BC, but hopefully it was mild down in Victoria.
It was very fun and enjoyable! I like Canada. Went to all kinds of places...Craigdarroch Castle, Butchart Gardens, the Parliament Building, a zoo in a town near Victoria, Sydney I believe it was, explored downtown. Victoria had kinda cloudy weather, with occasional sun breaking through, with no major rain showers. It sprinkled a bit here and there. I may post some pictures I took on my trip later. I was very appreciative that the street signs and traffic laws were pretty much like the U.S. It was kind of weird having to drive in km/h instead of mph, though. LOL!
A rumor spread among the brothers and sisters that Joni Mitchell had been the girlfriend of IMINXTC. But IMINXTC said he “once had a girlfriend who lived in” the hometown of Joni Mitchell, not that Joni Mitchell had been his girlfriend.
Wow. I'm wondering if IMINXTC ever had to Come in From the Cold after crying out Help Me or whether instead after the breakup he could see Both Sides Now and just took a Big Yellow Taxi to California...
I tried the poutine. Kinda different, but I liked it. I had some pierogis. All kinds of different fillings in them. Some I liked, some I didn't. The one that probably tasted the best was the one that was a cheeseburger filled pierogi. Cooked hamburger, cheese, bacon, and ketchup, I think.
