Isn’t that impossible to do? Jesus Himself warns us that Satan walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour us. Scripture also advises us, I think by Paul, to put on the armor of God to defend ourselves agains the Devil. This sort of indicates to me that Satan is hardly one we can “ignore.”
If I put on the Armor of God, what's to worry about. Satan loves it when you voluntarily give him your time. You're doing his work for him.
Satan is probably a being of immense power who could wipe out humanity by himself if he were allowed (but this would be true of all angels, and perhaps it isn't). But he isn't, and we're in Christ, and next to God he's as powerless as we are, so I also couldn't tell you the last time I gave him much thought.
The “Lord rebuke you” encounter? That actually almost comes across to me as Michael not wanting to say much to Satan because he feared him or something, so he just uttered his comment. Instead of rebuking or putting Satan in his place, it was as if Michael was like, “God rebuke you (because I can’t).”
Lucifer was Michael's superior. Michael knows that the job of rebuking an archangel is God's job, not his. It's about respecting who God is, not about any weakness. There is a real lesson there.
You're referencing Jude 1:9 Satan and Michael debating over the body of Moses. It was NOT a battle to be won or lost. Michael being the representative of God, rebuked Satan in Gods name. Not out of fear, but by authority. Now, If you think Michael was simply acting out of fear, I suggest you visit Revelation. Revelation 12:7-9 7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels [going forth] to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels; 8 And they prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.
I find it a little ironic that someone would suggest that Michael the Archangel can't defeat Satan who goes by devilslayer365!
I think Peter is helpful too when he speaks of false prophets in 2 Peter 2.... Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord. 12 But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.
So, I have a question. If we’re not to blaspheme or be disrespectful to Satan, a being who is nothing but pure evil, wouldn’t that imply we should ALSO treat our fellow human beings, particularly our fellow believers in Christ, with respect as well? Or are we fair game to treat others like garbage because we’re not angelic beings? I ask this because us humans don’t do a great job of being respectful of others.
Nothing specific. Just a general observation that people are so rude, petty, and negative with others. Sadly, it’s not limited to just unbelievers. If it were, that would be one thing. They don’t know any better. They have somewhat of an excuse to be that way. Some of the most severe mistreatment of people I’ve seen goes on between people who claim Jesus Christ as Savior.
