    Interesting article.

    Actually, totally depressing article.

What the emoji for "end of rational human thought"?

Wow.... who would have thought that silly pictures in a text message might actually be considered meaningful?

I got through the first few pages, noting the comment about the events that led to multiple deaths because of a missing dot over a letter, and wondered if a missing dot over a letter could possibly be justification in anybody's eyes (except maybe in the odd world of gangsters and however their minds work) to go out and kill people.

Maybe we should add the pie-in-face emoji to every message to demonstrate what will happen to anyone who takes it too seriously.

    pi-in-face

Interestingly, I've already been in litigation in which text messages or emails were in question, and part of the inquiry was "what did you mean by adding that smiley face emoji"...

    It makes my head hurt.

I did not read all of that document, but it was quite well written from what I read.

I suspect there has to be more to that story.

I wonder how things would pan out if the student in the Fox article demanded the professor apologise for making assumptions about their gender and thereby implying that she was more of a woman than they for no reason other than happening to be born with a vagina. If he felt so inclined perhaps he could go as far as to point out the irony in her insisting that the class watch a transgender individual on video only to then watch her berate a non-heteronormative individual for daring to speak.

Funny how gender is fluid until men might benefit from it.

That student was probably reprimanded for being rude, disruptive, etc. There is certainly a problem, but what he did probably wasn't anything approaching the way to address that problem.

Given the comments in the letter pictured I'd have to wonder just how disruptive a student would have to be to "significantly damage" the "learning environment" or "significantly damage" the (safe classroom atmosphere). Short of threatening physical violence against other members of the class it's hard to see how challenging the validity of an argument represents significant damage to the concept of a safe place to learn. Unless a "safe place" is "one free from dissent", and that sort of place never used to be called a university.

I was planning to look into it more, but this is pretty much what I would expect to find. Even the Fox report suggests the student was just looking for an argument and being an idiot.

How is stating that there are only two genders "looking for an argument" and "being an idiot?" It's merely stating the PAINFULLY OBVIOUS TRUTH...

It has nothing to do with the truth of the matter. He was looking for an argument in the wrong way and probably the wrong time. There is a proper way to have that discussion and I got no sense that he was actually interested in having that discussion.

Discussion? There was no "discussion" to have, ESPECIALLY from the professor's perspective. The professor wants to indoctrinate, not discuss ANYTHING. The student simply just had the nads to stand up to her. These stupid humanities classes, or whatever these idiot gatherings are called, are an absolute joke and SHOULD NOT be a requirement to graduate...

You are not understanding me, nor do I think you are actually interested in understanding me. So I'll just let it go.

Actually, you're intentionally being VAGUE, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to "understand" you. You're also pretty naive if you think there's a "proper way to have that discussion" in a college class. There's really not. Professors are NOT interested in what dissenting students have to say. There ISN’T an opportunity to have ANY “discussion." For the professor, it's "my way or the highway." Period. Though the student may have screwed up his college career, at least temporarily, I applaud him for saying what he said...
