Seeking and I were chatting. The ESV, which is a fine translation, one which some Reformed people are so in love with it that they could marry it (thank you, Kierkegaard) is ugly at Jonah 4:4 & 4:9.

And the Lord said, “Do you do well to be angry?”

Any uglier verses that you know?

    How about

"and Judas went out and hanged himself. . . "Go thou, and do likewise."

A favorite example of bibliomancy. I just don’t get with the ESV how a 21st century English version could have a verse that awkward. Who speaks like that?

    Psalm 147:10
“His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,”

Heb 7:18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

It's the KJV, out of context it's anybody's guess what it means.

That sounds like something out of an insurance contract.

Yes, the part in the small print that you didn't read but that means the insurance company doesn't have to pay because your house burned down on a Wednesday, during the gibbous phase of the moon. Or something like that. If only we knew a good lawyer :)

Why do you call me "good."

There is no one good but God.
