How did Peter hear about Jesus?

Yes, finding the balance of how open to be can be challenging.

I should have included another massive change on my calendar.

1985 changed my opinion about Roman Catholicism and became a Protestant.

See, that's what confuses me about other Christians. Inerrancy of scripture is not just some term people made up. The Bible itself makes that claim. The same Bible that was inspired by the Holy Spirit. Inspired as in God told people, even if not audibly, what to write. So, if God Himself is the "author," how can there be error or "errancy?" Did God forget some things and mess up His storyline when he had people write scripture? I saw in another post you believe "inspiration" doesn't mean God Himself wrote the Bible through men. That God merely put it on men's hearts, so to speak, to, "Hey, write about this" and allowing these men to write everything from their own perspective, even if their perspective meant error would be introduced into scripture. Why would God allow error to be introduced into the Bible? Didn't He want TRUTH to be recorded as He is a God of truth and not deception or error?

Actually, stuff like this DOES matter. I mean, we have to know we can trust scripture. Did God write it or did man? If man did, with no assistance from God, then it's JUST stories from men. How do we know we can trust THAT?

Not being facetious here, but Aaron is on to something actually. Personally, I don't have a problem with believing the inerrancy of the scriptures because, personally, I believe God had His hand in preserving the scriptures in the Received Text (not wanting a debate right now)... Shoot, I'm actually silly enough to believe that God had his hand on the Old Latin, English, Spanish, Italian, French, etc., translations that came from the RT.

The lack of faith in the scriptures came from the manuscripts that came from Oregin, Jerome, Westcott & Hort, etc... And consequentially the versions that came from these manuscripts. But then again, that's just me.

Much obliged Aaron. And I still very much believe it had to do with timelines, ending up with the actual calling from disciple to Apostle.

Oh, and that seeming discrepancy I mentioned on page one of this thread: In 2 Chronicles 36:9 it states "Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign" while 2 Kings 24:8 says "Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign". A ten year difference...

Notice in 2 Chronicles 36:10 "And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the Lord, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem." this king was taken into captivity and as the custom of the conquerors was to insert an indoctrinated king (puppet) on the throne of a conquered nation, this is what happened in the reign of Jehoiachin. 2 Kings is where he was placed back on that throne when he was eighteen. That's where we see the ten year difference! The difference is that these were written from different vantage points at different times. What's happening ten minutes or ten years ago may not be happening now. Do you see what I mean?

2 Chronicles 36:9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord.

2 Kings 24:8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

Why only the Received Text? Is God somehow limited when it comes to preserving His word?

Because those were the preserved letters from the Apostles. Henry Ford built the Model T, not the Packard, or the Maxwell. The Model T was a unique vehicle in the way it looked, drove, and the way it was manufactured. And most of all you could have it in any color you wanted as long as it was black, black, or black. Most other manufacturers tried to duplicate their car's construction after Henry's methods, but with their own flare and take on what an auto ought to be. We have the Received Text which is what was intended to be the Word of God by God. Then a century or so later, we have Origens take on the Word of God, Origens way, through the Alexandrian Text. I'd rather have it the way it was intended. God's way.

There are no preserved texts from the Apostles.

    No autographs.

    Copies only.

Yea, hath God said RK? Can God Save you? Or can you guess that God can save you because several texts that have been scraped together say that maybe, possibly He might? The Psalmist said: Psalms 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 12:7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. To believe that God will preserve His Word, that's a spiritual and supernatural thing to believe my dear brother. John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? Yet I know for a fact you believe ye must be born again. I've seen you say it. Being born again is a spiritual and supernatural thing yet you believe it. Right RK? So what keeps you from believing that God would preserve His Word where you don't have to guess at what the Word actually say's? So how can God do one thing, save your soul, yet He can't do another thing, preserve His Word in it's purity and entirety?

If He can do one thing, but can't do another, where is your faith based? Who is your faith based in and on? Do you have your faith in your God, or in your own understanding of what you think God might have possibly said?

Yesterday, I picked up a dear brother, David Miller, who was stranded without a ride here in Athens and took him to his home in Reliance. This was a young man who loved the Lord and trusted in Him alone. I trained this young man as an evangelist over the past several years. He was like a son to me... He preached the Word with total faith that he was preaching "thus saith the Lord" from the preserved Word. This afternoon, word came to me that he died at his home. Through faith that God keeps His promises through His un-defiled, supernaturally inspired and preserved Word, I believe that this dear brother was instantly with the Lord when he closed his eyes in death. Why? Because; 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight ) 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

As your brother and friend, I ask you to consider what I'm saying here. Without total faith that God can do what He promises, how can we actually pretend to please God? Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God has preserved his words, but it's not limited to the KJV.

If there is one issue that I fail to grasp when it comes to the Bible, it's got to be this one.

It's fine Teddy. After a lot of careful reflection, I realize that my convictions are mine, although I share them with some others. Yours are yours also. No big deal. We each have to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

Our brother Tim is not the typical KJV adherent. I have always appreciated how much Tim disagrees agreeably on this.

That said, there's a big difference between Tim thinking there are errors in modern versions (we all agree) and the rest of us saying there are errors in the KJV compared to saying there are just errors in the Bible (the original autographs) period.

And this thread has had many other different issues thrown in such as which gospels are in chronological order and which are not. Completely different field of questions. Let's not get all of our categories mixed up. One issue doesn't necessarily impact another.
